ABOUT US

WHO ARE WE?

Resources

First and foremost, we're people.  We're flawed people, and we're people who were dealt the privileged hand in pretty much every category that there is.  Below are some causes that we care deeply about, some really good resources from that you can use to get some insight into the issues at hand, and some actions you can take to help us to support these causes.  It's the responsibility of ALL OF US to take action to rectify injustices, right our historical wrongs, and heal the world.

Meet the Band

Meet the Band

'Hey Imagine' started out as 'This Wall Stays', in 2018, the release/stage name of frontman Jono Greyling.  Before our first ever live performance, Jono released 'Money' and 'Buy Me Happy', two tracks which remain a staple of our live set.

In March 2019, we played our first ever live performance as This Wall Stays, and in March 2020 we decided to change our name to 'Hey Imagine'.  Since March 2019, we've released five more songs, two as TWS, and three as Hey Imagine, with four more singles in the pipeline before the end of September 2020.

For more on the new name, click here to read our blog post on why the change, and here to watch the video about it.

Jono Greyling
Singer, Songwriter, Guitarist

As the 'Creative Director' of Hey ImagineJono Greyling is the genius singer-songwriter and instrumentalist behind the vast majority of Hey Imagine tracks, as well as the arrangement of our live sets.  He started This Wall Stays as a name under which to release his originals, which has since developed into Hey Imagine

Starting his music career at a very young age, on the guitar, Jono has always had a deep love for the connections made through music, and has over the years acquired tremendous skill on the bass, piano, drums, all the while developing as a more and more talented electric guitarist.  Frankly he's one of those arseholes that can pick up any instrument and play it flawlessly.  We know, kak irritating.

Hugo Janssens
Drummer

Our drummer and Director of Vibes, Gees, and Fun, Hugo Janssens has been a part of the family since the first ever public This Wall Stays performance, and is a crucial part of the organism that is Hey Imagine.  His infectious sense of fun and love for life helps to keep everyone on their toes and laughing, even when they shouldn't be.  Making sure that we never take anything too seriously, Hugo brings a light in the darkness.

A drummer since a very young age, Hugo keeps the band tight and together in our live performances.  Even when he decides to go on one of his incredible solos, he always manages to pop perfectly back into the groove, regardless of how little attention he seems to have been paying.

Greg Dixon
Bassist

Greg Dixon, the latest addition to the band, is our bassist and spiritual leader.  Greg joined the band only seven months ago, but is already a fundamental part of who we are as Hey Imagine.  He's the perfect balance for Hugo and Jono, bridging the gap between our prima donna frontman and excitable man-child.  His thirst for knowledge, his quest for enlightenment and his quiet charm make him the perfect bassist for us, and a fitting man to lead us to spiritual awakening.

A guitarist initially, Greg picked up the bass to join us in September 2019, and hasn't looked back.  The perfect profile to play the basslines Jono writes, as a guitarisit taught bass, his calm stage presence and subtle mannerisms, as well as his in-depth understanding of live arrangement and song composition make him an asset on stage.

Brad Farrell
Manager, Dad

Brad Farrell is our manager, and the band dad.  Brought on by Hugo and Jono after their first three gigs as This Wall Stays, Brad basically keeps things on track, on time, and on brand.  He's the king of the band admin, and his Lenovo Yoga, which accompanies him everywhere, essentially runs our lives (and not just for the band, Hugo has been known to call Brad to sort out his personal admin and scheduling on multiple occasions).

With over seven years experience in a variety of tenets of the Capetonian music industry, as well as twelve years of formal music education under his belt, Brad is a long-suffering, loving dad who'll do anything for his kids, albeit with a touch of attitude on the side.
