This Wall GOES?!

What caused us to change our name from This Wall Stays, a name that had been with us since the beginning?

Firstly, we want everyone to know that our decision to change our name from This Wall Stays was not taken lightly. We're aware that some of you, particularly those that have been our most ardent supporters, from when Jono first released 'Money', will be very attached to the old name, and obviously that goes for us as well, but this was the right call to make, and we'll explain why. We are all absolutely in love with the new name, and continue to fall more in love with it at each passing mention and we know you will too.

Why change the name at all?

Firstly, 'This Wall Stays' was the name that Jono was releasing music under as himself, but as we added Hugo, Greg and Brad to the team, and the bond between us grew, it felt more and more right to have a name that symbolised our relationship, our brotherhood. Essentially, as we grew together as friends, and as a band, we outgrew the name.

Secondly, we started to realise, as we started to play more and more shows which had more and more new people, our name had to be catchy, easy to pick up, and hard to forget. 'This Wall Stays', unfortunately, was a little bit difficult to hear, introducing confusion and a lack of instantaneous brand recognition, which is obviously something we didn't want as we continue to grow.

This, along with a bunch of other smaller factors, has lead us to make the inevitable decision of changing our name.

Why 'Hey Imagine'?

We went through a stringent and stressful process of deciding on a new name, going through a ton of different options, each of which fell by the wayside for one reason or another. Those reasons helped us to build a long and strict checklist for boxes that the new name would have to tick before we could settle on it, and before you ask, it has, and more.

We wanted the name, at its' core, to symbolise who WE are, the bond that WE have, the love that WE have, and the bond and love that we extend to you, our friends! So it had to be something that meant a ton to us, and something that would mean more and more to you all, the more time you spend with us.

'Hey Imagine' came from a posties joke which became an integral part of our vocabulary. The more time you spend with us, the more you'll notice how much we use it, how positive an association it has for all of us, when used in context of the joke, and you'll realise more and more how perfectly it sums up who we are and what we want to achieve.

'Hey Imagine' speaks to a spirit of adventure. It speaks to dreaming of what you want your future to be, and then making it happen. It tells you to manifest positivity and good fortune upon you and those you spend time with. It symbolises fate, love, happiness and good times that you'll never forget. It means chasing moments that make you feel like you're living in a movie. Hey? Imagine!

It's ticked all the boxes for us, and 'Hey Imagine' is who we are now. We can't think of anything better, and we hope that you can see that too. We're still the same people, we're still the same band, playing the same music, making you feel the same love. The name just suits us better now. We fucking love you.
